The pcm moves the valve (power and ground ) at pins 2&3. From memory there is a 12 volt feed at pin 3 and the valve is controlled (open/closed using a pulse width modulated ground signal from the pcm) When the valve moves open /close the voltage should vary at pin 4. From memory it's 0.98-4.45 volts open to close (or close to this )

The missfire happens between 1800 and 2000rpm and only happens when feathering the throttle. Never under full load. I had a similar problem on my MK3 mondeo which turned out to be the EGR valve sticking. I blanked the EGR valve on the new car and hey presto, flat spot was gone. Garage asked for the car back to fit a new EGR.
