JIRA will not allow you to convert an issue to a subtask if that issue already has subtasks of its own because subtasks cannot have subtasks. If you do wish to have further nesting like this, you could administer new link types of "is a parent of" and "is a child of" and use the links to create the nested relationships as deep as you would like.
If your Task and Sub-Task have different workflows, this is going to fail. The only way that you can use automation to convert one issue type to another is if they share the same workflow. Otherwise, this would be a "Move" operation which is only possible through a manual function on the Jira UI. Like. Gavin.
Select More > Convert to sub-task. In the Step 1. Select parent issue and sub-task type screen, type or select the appropriate parent issue type and the new issue type (i.e. a sub-task issue type). Select Next. If the issue's current status is not an allowed status for the new issue type, the Step 2.
Answer accepted. That is still the case. You can't add subtasks to sprints or move them to backlog without moving the parent story. You will have to either convert the subtasks to stories or split the story and move the subtasks to the new story. The stories should then be moved to the backlog.
Hi guys, I am using a curl PUT command to update JIRA issue status, it is returning the HTML 204 response but no status is being updated. The only thing being updated is a comment into the issue "test test". The transition id 101 is "In progress". What am I doing wrong? See code below: curl -v

Documentations says, if I need to convert an issue to a sub-task, I should follow these steps: Navigate to the issue you would like to convert. Select More > Convert to Sub-Task. But I simply have no "convert to sub-task" menu item. Why?
